It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Katherine Elizabeth Prystenski Wiebe at the age of 67 years at Health Science Centre March 21, 2021 after a brief illness. Peacefully, with family by her side, she passed on to glory!

Kathie is lovingly remembered by her husband, of 40 years, Leonard. She is survived by two sons; Jim (Romie), Daniel (Aubrey), granddaughter Kara, grandsons Jeremiah and Zachary.

Left to cherish her memory is her one sister Helen (John Goertzen); Leonard’s siblings and extended Wiebe and Prystenski families.

Kathie was born April 28, 1953 in St. Boniface Hospital. She was the youngest of 3 children and grew up on the family farm south of Winnipeg. She attended Glenlawn Collegiate and graduated in 1972. Sometime after this she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and Lord and began attending Portage Avenue Baptist Church.

God had amazing plans for her life, and one day riding home from church with a friend Carol (Len’s sister), who was desperately trying to find a wife for her brother, decided to head to Grunthal to find Len one Sunday afternoon. Len passed them on his motorcycle coming through town. To make a long story short, they met and fell in love, and were married 3 1/2 years later and moved into the Grunthal area and began their life together! Kathie loved children and drove bus for the Hanover School Division for 30 years until her retirement. She also worked homecare for 8 years.

In 1997, the family moved to the Steinbach area to be closer to schools and church. Church life was very important to Kathie and she was always involved in one thing or another. She wanted her kids and grandkids to love Jesus. God gave her, her heart’s desire! She spent all the time that she could taking her grandkids to Springs’ family camp and wherever she was able to influence them. She also loved her dogs and ran a dog breeding kennel for 15 years.

In 2014 Kathie retired from the School Division and they moved into Steinbach. Kathie always wanted to drive a semi and now was the time. Kathie and Len both got their Class 1 license and spent 6 incredible years in an adventure of a life time.

Kathie was an amazing wife, mother, Nana, friend and auntie and will be sadly missed, but we know we will meet again! To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord!

Very truly I tell you, whoever hears My Word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life! John 5:24.

Cremation has taken place.  A graveside service will take place at a later date.

The family thanks the staff at St. Boniface Hospital and Health Sciences Centre for the care and compassion they provided to Kathie.
