SUMMARY:John Bergen
DESCRIPTION:John Bergen\, age 84\, of Niverville\, Manitoba\, passed peacefully into the arms of the Father on March 23\, 2026\, at 10:55 a.m. His wife Frieda was at his side; she remembered his final moments as “so unbelievably peaceful.” \nJohn was born July 12\, 1941\, in the RM of Hanover to Abe and Susan Bergen and was the oldest of ten children. At seven the family moved to Colony Bergthal\, Paraguay\, where they lived for four years before returning to Manitoba and settling in New Bothwell. A quick and determined learner\, John overcame the challenges of not speaking English as a child. His faith and the grace and forgiveness offered through Jesus were a steady source of comfort and strength throughout his life. \nJohn loved his work and the people he met along the way. From 1967 to 1970 he taught school in Kola\, Manitoba\, forging many lifelong friendships. After he and Frieda settled in Winnipeg\, he embarked on a long and successful career in commercial real estate. In retirement he made his home in Niverville\, where he spent his later years as his health declined. \nJohn loved photography\, left-handed golf\, and was known to delight his family with a wonderful singing voice—often to entertain and occasionally to tease. \nHe is survived by his beloved wife\, Frieda; his children Chad (Heather)\, Shawn\, and Amber (Justin); and his grandchildren Marlana\, Sarah\, Leah\, Dawson\, Kaleb\, and Jax. He was predeceased by his son Michael. His family will remember him as a kind\, gentle presence who left the world more beautiful for having been in it. \nHe will be deeply missed. \nThe memorial service will be held on Thursday\, April 2\, 2026\, at 2:00 p.m.\, at Birchwood Funeral Chapel\, Steinbach\, MB.
